[ She opens it up and holds it up to him, as if telling him to touch the page. ] For these kinds of papers, it's best to use a pencil or gel and sign pens. But there are smoother ones which have a little bit of gloss to them. Those are better for ballpoint pens.

I don't use a journal with lined pages since I sometimes draw things on it too, but maybe you might want to do that?
