My father really enjoyed wine, so I've known quite a few. The dry wines really aren't my thing, but I suppose the nutty flavor isn't so bad. I feel like maybe it'd be better as a tea, though. Wine is better suited for things like sangrias.
[She takes a more hearty gulp this time. Wondering if it was perhaps mulled wine or some type of fermenting process that gave it the nutty flavor.]
[ She's been trained to drink these sorts of things for fancy gatherings, but if she had a choice, she really wouldn't drink it. Or any other alcoholic drink, for that matter. But she also knows what her limits are, at the very least, so she knows when to stop.
Weiss refuses to become like her alcoholic mother. ]
I'm not a tea person, either. A little nutty flavour in coffee isn't so bad, though. There's almond milk in coffee, and even hazelnut flavoured coffee, after all.
[ Yeah, she's a lot better in conversation if coffee is involved. That's her go-to drink! ]
At least it doesn't seem like this one glass won't make us intoxicated.
[ Or so she thinks, anyway. She'll save the rest of her drink when the fruit platter arrives, thinking it really would be easier to down then.]
[No wine or tea? Wow! Excuse Rin while she Silently Judges You, Weiss. Especially because she's the type of person who views her father with heavily tinted rose-colored glasses, so the insult to something her father liked isn't taken all that well.
Rin doesn't say it, though. Instead she blurts out:]
Honestly you'd probably be much cuter if you were.
[WHAT?! Why the hell did that come out?! It was supposed to be an inner thought only! Rin's hand flies up to her face as she covers her expression and tries to keep herself from letting anything else come out.]
[ Oh! That was. . . rather sudden, wasn't it? She can see the shock in Rin's expression, and she normally would be just as flustered, and she does sputter for a moment! She's also quick to gather her bearings, though. ]
I can't believe you were accusing me of finding you cute but here you are saying that!
[ And that she'd be cuter if she liked tea? Or was it the wine? Either way. . . It definitely does a boost to her ego. ]
There are so many things that are cute about me. And it's not limited to my drink of choice.
[ Which she only mentions because a server comes up to them finally with their little platter! Apples, watermelon slices, kiwi, mangoes, grapes, and other fruits are all in one plate, and they're served dessert forks to go with it. ]
Please don't get drunk. That's just... really pathetic, honestly.
[ That's a lot more blunt than she normally would be! And she realises this immediately. Hopefully that wasn't too rude for Rin, because she certainly doesn't want to make enemies at this time with anybody.
May as well just... eat this apple slice. MM SURE IS JUICY AND GOOD.... let's ignore the elephant in the room. ]
[Tohsaka grabs a dessert fork, but is quick to utilize it to point accusingly at Weiss rather than nab a bit of fruit.]
Excuse me? Aside from a little bit of cheese on a cracker earlier, I haven't had anything. They don't exactly have amenities in the jungle, after all. I had to run, naked I'll have you know, for my life while getting hunted down for sexual sport. A little more stressful than smelling like a dog, I'll have you know.
[ She is not intimidated by the accusatory fork. And despite how judgey she's sounding, it's not because she wants Rin to remain completely pathetic!! ]
Shouldn't you be eating more now, then? Maybe we should get something more filling.
[ Gurl, if she has to wave another waiter over... ]
[Her expression twists further. Rin takes that fork and starts eagerly stabbing multiple pieces of fruit until the tines have about all they can take. She gobbles it all in one big, defiant bite.]
Because it's free, of course! Who knows how expensive any of this stuff will end up being?!
[ It's not like Rin is wrong or anything, but Weiss would prefer to spend what money she has here on essentials. Food is essentials! And she sure as hell doesn't have any intention of going around and begging for people to treat her or anything.
She does wave the waiter over, though. It's a lounge, so maybe filling finger food might be available. ]
Do you have some Grilled Nectarine & Cheese Crostinis? Maybe Cilantro Tomato Bruschetta?
[ Those are oddly specific, but it's what she thinks are good to eat. The waiter does confirm they have crostinis, but it's smoked pimiento cheese. Some other finger food selections are offered, as well. So Weiss defers to Rin for judgement. ]
[When Rin hears something she likes she pipes up.]
Oh! The roasted Margherita flatbread sounds lovely.
[It sounds healthy enough that she won't feel (too) bad if she devours the whole thing. Also it sounds warm... a perfect contrast to the fruit plate.
Of which Rin helps herself more to. Thanks for being a temp sugar mama, Weiss. Rin may have a family pedigree but she's always been broke herself. For... a multitude of reasons.]
See, there's the problem of not having enough money here, but if she's able to help someone, then that totally is a good use of limited resources. Though now she'll have to be more careful of how she spends the rest of her money.
Especially when she doesn't even want to play the big game hanging over everyone's heads. ]
Actually, it might be a good idea to look for someone who has more resources than others, now that I think about it.
[Rin's expression turns sly as she latches on to what Weiss is saying.]
Intend to leech off of the more fortunate?
[YOU MEAN EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE DOING RIGHT NOW, RIN? At least Rin actually intends to play the game. Though she does find herself a little concerned there haven't been many people she'd consider "prey," for now. She feels like like a cat surrounded by wolves while unable to spot any mice or birds.]
[Rin's mental gymnastics is so twisted it's difficult to tell when she's "I will be completely selfish and talk all of what I want and leave nothing else," or when she's, "life is a series of debts and repayments, and I refuse to be the one indebted to others". Perhaps it's a matter of context.]
Is that right? Forced charitable donations are acceptable?
...Are you saying you'll sell yourself for it? I mean, what else is there to offer in a place like this?
["Just tellin' it like it is" - only in the must blunt and rude way possible. Rin may like her fellow women, but she can be a thorn to pretty much everyone.]
Good luck banging your head on the wall. If you don't know how it pulled us all in, I doubt you'll figure a way out. I'd like to see you in a couple months and hear about your progress.
[Rin Tohsaka has always been stubborn, but she also likes to pretend she's the type of person who gives up in any situation she already knows she won't win in. Like someone dealing with "logic" rather than "heart".]
You know what? I'll take that challenge. I'll see you again and give a report on my progress. If I'm still here, anyway.
[ Oh boy. Now she can't not do some research and try to find a way out of here. She's determined, at least. Not just to prove someone wrong, but to make progress and find her way back to Remnant.
Their fingerfood is pretty easy to make, at least. By the looks of it, it was just plating everything and then bringing it to them, so it doesn't take very long. Weiss pushes the plate closer to Rin. ]

Maybe this drink is making me more tipsy than anticipated.
[Yet she's still drinking it?! Of course. Don't waste free shit.]
